The event honored Charlene Tang, NYU alumna and parent of an NYU Shanghai freshman, in her new position as Chair of NYU Shanghai Parents Council.

“NYU Shanghai is the first Sino-US university in China. It faces evolving challenges,” she said. “My wish for the University is that it continues to attract extraordinary students from around the world and grows into a world-class university that its alumni and students are proud of.”

With its membership now including 13 families, the council continues its tradition of hosting biannual events including “A Conversation with University Leadership” and a “New Class Parents’ Panel” to familiarize parents with the university and address their questions with a platform for dialogue.

In the footsteps of NYU’s Parent Council, parents whose annual gift exceeds $ 5,000 in support of NYU’s development, are added by the NYU Shanghai Education Development Foundation to an online honor hall to pay tribute to the donors.

Looking back in the history of NYU’s development path, The Parents Council has been instrumental to NYU’s development as a historical tradition that expands fundraising efforts within the greater NYU community. It is a critical platform of communication between the University and parents that both expands the fundraising network, and promotes the university’s social influence. At present, the NYU Parents Council has over 200 families from 13 countries and states across the globe.
