NYU Shanghai's picture

What was your first impression of NYU Shanghai?

My very first impression was relatively abstract, only at the level of facts and figures, but over the past four years, after teaching, research and student activities began, I had a much better idea of what NYU Shanghai was about: an international campus atmosphere, advanced educational philosophy and teaching goals, top-class faculty and resources, attractive global teaching sites, efficient and enthusiastic staff, personalized student guidance, a diverse student body with ambitious students coming from more than fifty countries/regions in the world, and a kind, tolerant, focused and friendly chancellor.

Why do you support your child choosing NYU Shanghai?

Many parents, when considering which school is right for their son or daughter, try to balance their child’s ability with features of educational institutions and family expectations. NYU Shanghai happens to be an ideal choice that coincides with the progressive concept of Chinese education reform. NYU Shanghai is a great fit for independently-minded students with a creative impulse, an open mind, energy, team spirit, diligence and a strong vision for the future.

How has your child changed after their years at NYU Shanghai?

First of all, his confidence improved tremendously. He became more optimistic with great expectations for the future. Secondly, he gradually developed a stronger sense of inner being and purpose. He knows himself better and has a clearer vision for the future. It reminds me of a poem, the author of which I can’t recall:

It bends over there

Biting leaves

Transformed into a butterfly

This is the vivid metamorphosis of NYU Shanghai students.

As a veteran NYU Shanghai parent, what is your advice for new parents?

After your child is accepted to NYU Shanghai, here is my advice to you:

1.         Pay more attention to his/her inner being and pay less attention to his/her study.

2.         Pay more attention to his/her thoughts and pay less attention to his/her behavior.

3.         Pay more attention to his/her planning and pay less attention to his/her life.

What are 5 important issues you care about most?

1.Students’ study-away and other opportunities to broaden their horizons.

2. Students career development and employment preparation guide work and support plan for graduates.

3. NYU Shanghai media and promotion plan.

4. Resource integration and application to NYU Shanghai alumni.

5. Funds set by NYU Shanghai Education Development Foundation to support students and University.
