Jiaqiao Xiang: The Scholarship Serves as a Torch Lighting the Way for My Future

Would you share your background or personal stories?

As a student from a small town in Anhui Province, where educational resources are relatively scarce, I had my high school life mainly focusing on Gaokao, and didn't have much freedom to do the things I like. Going to NYU Shanghai has really broadened my horizons, which allows me to see a much greater world. Last summer, I attended a life-changing program in Tel Aviv University in Israel. I hope to become a global ambassador that can make a change to break down barriers between different cultures.

What are your academic interests and goals?

My academic interests, to a large extent, focus on social science, business, economics and math. My goal is to use the tools of math and data science to analyze problems in the society or business world that would help to make the world a better place.

What do you hope to do after graduation?

I hope to continue my study at graduate school, which prepare me with the ability, tools and resources to help me to make a difference in the world. I wish to work in either consulting or education industry, and to make the best to either help companies achieve their goals or promote education equality.

What do you like best about NYU Shanghai?

NYU Shanghai is a highly culturally diverse place where students from different backgrounds work, live and study together. In this close and inclusive community, everyone is able to share their ideas freely and communicate in a respectful way. We can see the world from different perspectives in a cosmopolitan sense. We help each other, support each other, and unite in diversity. This is the best of NYU Shanghai, a place that embraces differences, and prospers in diversity.
