A Shared Future - Hunan Lanshan Students' NYU Shanghai Visit
On July 13th, a group of students and teachers from Lanshan, Hunan province visited NYU Shanghai. This visit, a part of “Lanshan Students Charity Education Tour in Shanghai”, aimed to expand students’ horizons and present Shanghai’s educational development, was co-hosted by Hongkou District Society for Promotion of Guangcai Program, NYU Shanghai Education Development Foundation, Guo Tai Yuan Xin Asset Management Co., Ltd, and Wispring Education Development Foundation. Attendees including NYU Shanghai Chancellor Yu Lizhong, Vice Minister of Hongkou District United Front Work Department and Secretary of HongKou District Federation of Industry and Commerce Xiang Rong, Vice Secretary of Hongkou District Federation of Industry and Commerce Wang FangFang, Vice Chancellor of Hongkou District Society for Promotion of Guangcai Program and President of Guo Tai Yuan Xin Asset Management Liang ZhiPing, Secretary of Wispring Education Development Foundation Zhang Fan, and Secretary of NYU Shanghai Education Development Foundation Sun Shuangyun.
Chancellor Yu Lizhong greeted students and teachers from Lanshan and guests from all walks of life.
“NYU Shanghai has been exploring a new model of higher education since its founding. The excellent achievements by the two graduated classes and the positive feedbacks and attention from the society have instilled us greater confidence in NYU Shanghai’s future and strengthened our dedication in nurturing global-perspective, creative and innovative talents in the 21st century,” Chancellor Yu added, “ I hope through today’s tour, students and teachers from the distant area are able to see China’s rapid development in higher education, and I look forward to many more innovations and new education models to come in the future for our students.”
Vice Minister of Hongkou District United Front Work Department and Secretary of HongKou District Federation of Industry and Commerce Xiang Rong thanked the wonderful experience NYU Shanghai provided to students and teachers from Lanshan. This experience gave the group the direct exposure to NYU Shanghai’s educational mission and its globalized academic environment. In the meantime, Secretary Xiang acknowledged the continuous supports and philanthropic commitment from the private sector in Shanghai.

Vice Chancellor of Hongkou District Society for Promotion of Guangcai Program and President of Guo Tai Yuan Xin Liang Zhiping gratefully thanked Shanghai municipal government’s support in charity work and shared Guo Tai Yuan Xin’s philanthropic involvement in supporting education in isolated, low-income regions over the past four years. He said, “This is our first time to invite students and teachers from Lanshan to Shanghai. We encourage students to have big ambitions and aim higher, and hope one day they will become visionary individuals who build a better future for all.”
Secretary of Wispring Education Development Foundation Zhang Fan said, "I also came from a remote area in Hunan province, so I was really moved to see our students having the opportunity to discover these global educational resources. Every summer, our Foundation recruits student volunteers, and some of them are NYU Shanghai students. They were taught with a strong sense of volunteering. I hope in the future, there will be more philanthropic groups joining us. Together, we can bring more hopes to our students, providing opportunities and opening their minds. "
