Board Members Convene for the Second Meeting of the Third Session of NYU Shanghai Education Development Foundation Board

On October 24, 2024,the Second Meeting of the Third Session of the NYU Shanghai Education Development Foundation (the Foundation) Board was held on the NYU Shanghai New Bund Campus in S905 Board Room. The Second Meeting of the Second Session of the Foundation’s Board of Supervisors was held before the board meeting was held.

The board meeting was convened and presided over by Rime Sun, Chairman of the Foundation board. Secretary-General, Cathie Liu, presented her report to the members, outlining the recent work undertaken by the Foundation. This included a comprehensive review of the financial report for the Academic Year 2024, a summary of fundraising activities, updates on alumni and Foundation events, and an overview of external publicity efforts. Later, Vice Chancellor Jeffrey Lehman provided board members with updates on the university’s recent progress. Highlights included visits from U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng, the publication of Professor Chen Jian’s new book by the Harvard University Press, and the recent graduation ceremony at New Bund 31 Center, featuring notable commencement speaker Yao Ming. He concluded with news of the NYU Men’s and Women’s Basketball Team’s visit to Shanghai.

The board members conducted a secret ballot for the 2024-2029 strategic plan of the Foundation, and by a show of hands, voted for new resolutions on fund transfer from Foundation to NYU Shanghai, significant fundraising, and the Fall 2024 Financial Investment Proposal, subsequently signing the resolutions into effect.

The Board of Supervisors meeting preceded the board meeting in S904 at NYU Shanghai, where a secret ballot was held to decide on new leadership for the Chief of the Board of Supervisors. Due to the need of the Foundation's financial leadership role, Christie Jia Li has resigned from her role as Chief Supervisor and member of the Board of Supervisors, and Helen Haoyang Hu, NYU Shanghai’s Chief Financial Officer, was elected to the Board and appointed as the new Chief Supervisor. During the meeting, the three supervisors discussed key issues for the Board, and recent university developments, and shared insights from other university foundations, contributing valuable suggestions for the Foundation's future direction and initiatives.

The Foundation looks forward to the continued work of supporting NYU Shanghai’s activities and goals.
