Board Members Convene for the Eighth Meeting of the Second Session of NYU Shanghai Education Development Foundation Board
On August 3, 2022 the Eighth Meeting of the Second Session of the NYU Shanghai Education Development Foundation (the Foundation) Board and the Seventh Meeting of the First Session of the Foundation’s Board of Supervisors were held. They both took place on the NYU Shanghai Campus in room 1429.
The meeting was convened and presided over by Shuzhe Ding, Chairman of the Foundation board. Secretary-General Rime Sun gave her report to the members, outlining the recent work undertaken by the foundation. This included the financial report for Calendar Year 2021, fundraising summary, alumni and foundation events, and external publicity. The Foundation has completed and submitted the 2021 annual report in June. This spring, in order to help the university cope with the hardship and challenges brought by the resurgence of coronavirus, the Foundation relaunched the Community Adversity Relief Fund, and have raised a notable amount. Additionally, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of founding of NYU Shanghai, the Foundation launched the 10th Anniversary Fund, and has steadily been making progress. In addition, the planning and preparation of a series of events (such as a kick-off and unveiling ceremony) that are expected to take place during the university’s 10th anniversary celebration week is underway.
Last year was NYU Shanghai’s most successful year to date for research faculty recruitment. As the Provost of NYU Shanghai, Board Director Joanna Waley-Cohen shared the faculty recruitment information with all board members via pre-recorded video made in New York.
Chancellor Tong introduced the recent progress made by NYU Shanghai in the following three areas: online teaching and pandemic relief efforts during lockdown in Spring 2022, construction progress and plans for Qiantan campus, and the 2022 Admissions results.
The board members voted on AY2023 Foundation Budget, the significant fund investment plan, the significant fundraising and significant program funding resolutions for summer 2022 by a show of hands, subsequently signing the resolutions into effect.
The Board of Supervisors meeting continued after the Board meeting ended. Hao Weng, the Chief Supervisor, presided over the meeting. The three supervisors reviewed and discussed the items on the meeting and made some suggestions to the Foundation work.
The Foundation will actively carry out its work based on the feedback and suggestions on the meeting, and will support NYU Shanghai regarding the 10th anniversary celebration and the reallocation to Qiantan campus with its full efforts.
